Brief Introduction of Professor Guoliang Xu
Guoliang Xu, research professor at the Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, CAS, (Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology), and professor and executive dean at the Biomedical Research Institute of Fudan University. He received his bachelor's degree from the Department of Biology at Zhejiang University in 1985, his master's degree from the Institute of Genetics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1988, and his PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Germany in 1993. He did his postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Germany, the Department of Genetics and Development at Columbia University in the United States, and the Department of Medicine at Columbia University. He served as the leader of the International Young Scientist Group of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Max Planck Society from 2001 to 2006, and was awarded the "The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars". He was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015.
Academician Guoliang Xu has long been committed to the study of epigenetic modification of DNA. He has made a series of internationally leading achievements in the fields of "molecular mechanisms of DNA methylation and demethylation" and "epigenetic regulation mechanisms in reprogramming processes". His works have been twice selected as the "Top Ten Advances in Chinese Science" (2011 and 2016). He won the fifth C.C.Tan Life Science Innovation Award in 2012, the Tan Kah Kee Award of Life Sciences in 2014, and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award in 2017. His main interest recent years lies in the mechanism of epigenetic modification and modification enzymes in the process of growth and tumor development.
